Hailing from New York, Julia Landauer is one of NASCAR’s top prospects. Currently part of the NASCAR Next Program, Julia has made a huge impression in her first season competing in the highly competitive NASCAR K&N Pro Series West championship where she sits seventh in points. Achieving four top-5 finishes to date; Landauer has proven her talents driving for Bill McAnally Racing and is targeting her first victory in the series in the remaining rounds of the season. Julia has also appeared in the American TV show “Survivor” and is also a motivational speaker, mainly aiming to inspire women in sports, technology and engineering.
Now we’re past the halfway mark in your debut NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season, how would evaluate your progress so far?
Julia: This has been a big season of learning. I’m really proud of how I’ve adapted to the car and learned to race hard and aggressively. We’d like to see some better results and hopefully a win, so we’ll keep working hard!
How rewarding has it been for you to be part of the NASCAR Next program this year and what are the main things you’ve learnt?
Julia: It’s a huge honor to be part of the NASCAR Next program, because it shows that the industry recognizes my talent, brand, and potential to succeed at the top levels of NASCAR. It’s a great tool moving forward.
Do you put any extra pressure on yourself as a woman aiming to reach the top levels of motorsport?
Julia: As a racer I put pressure on myself. Being a woman has nothing to do with it, I’m a competitive person that wants to win. I hope that by being a woman I can show that the unexpected or underdogs can succeed too.
If you could choose any driver, past or present, to be a teammate, who would you choose and why?
Julia: Paul Newman is a huge role model of mine and I’d love to be able to race him and learn from him. He was humble, determined, philanthropic, and attacked life with an energy that is so admirable.
Have you set yourself any specific targets for the future e.g. make your NASCAR Xfinity Series debut within the next three years?
Julia: I hope to keep climbing the ranks of NASCAR, starting with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and moving up to Xfinity and Cup, while winning at every level.
Julia has given herself an ideal foundation with her strong 2016 season so far and she will aiming for her first NASCAR K&N Pro Series West victory in the remaining four rounds of the season. Landauer’s consistency, coupled with her racing instinct, has marked her out as a serious competitor and someone who is set for a bright future in NASCAR. The next couple of years will be vital to Julia’s development, but there is no doubt that the talented young driver can work her way up the ranks to NASCAR’s highest level.
