Marinescu enjoys successful British F4 test

Alexandra Marinescu is targeting a partial-campaign in this year’s British F4 Championship following a productive test day at Silverstone. Driving for Richardson Racing, Marinescu spoke of her delight driving on the Grand Prix layout at Silverstone by saying “being on the circuit and thinking Sebastian Vettel and other top drivers have raced here was overwhelming, but it was quite an easy circuit to learn and I had a good test day with no spins or accidents”.

Marinescu began her career in karting and enjoyed great success including being personally scouted by seven-times Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher in 2013, before making the step up to cars the following year where she competed in the American Skip Barber Summer Series, collecting a number of impressive results. After testing a range of single-seater machinery in Europe, Alexandra decided to race in the MSA Formula Championship for the 2015 season. Unfortunately an incident during a test session for the opening weekend at Brands Hatch side-lined the young driver for the remainder of the campaign, but Alexandra has been working hard to secure sponsorship for her single-seater return.

Deciding on British F4 as the series of choice, Alexandra commented “I love the tracks and the media coverage in the UK is good to attract sponsors with races live on TV and big crowds at every meeting”. This season’s British F4 championship has seen some incredible racing with a total of seven different winners and close battles throughout the field. If Marinescu can secure the funds to compete in the second half of the season, she commented “I’ll always try my best and the goal would be to finish inside the top-10 and for next year to finish inside the top-5”.

To help make Alexandra’s dreams a reality; she is searching for sponsors to support her in her bid to compete in British F4 for the remainder of the season. Marinescu has set up a crowdfunding page where fans and businesses alike can donate any amount to help cover costs with a series of perks being offered depending on the donation level. For example, a donation of $100 will enable your name to be printed on Alexandra’s car for once race, whereas businesses can pledge $1000 to have their company promoted on the car for a race weekend which will be shown live on TV. Alexandra has already made history by becoming the first Romanian female single-seater driver; however, she doesn’t feel that she has any expectations to live up to by saying “I don’t feel any extra pressure, I feel proud to represent my country”. If Marinescu secures the funding to compete in British F4 she will line up alongside her compatriot Petru Florescu, who is currently leading the championship with four victories to his name. With a number of upcoming drivers from Romania working their way into single seaters, Alexandra will hope to inspire future generations to chase their dreams and succeed in the world of motorsport.

With an encouraging test session under her belt, Marinescu commented “I enjoyed my time working with the team and we were able to work hard and have fun”. Alexandra is hoping to be back out in the car over the coming weeks in preparation for her first race weekend at Snetterton at the end of July but still needs your help to cover the costs. Any donation would be welcome and would help the talented young driver take the next step to reach her ultimate goal which is to compete in Formula 1.
