Dana Freeman is looking build upon her good start to the BRSCC Quaife Fiesta Championship season this weekend as the series heads to Silverstone. With just two car racing meetings under her belt, Dana has impressed by finishing every race she has taken part in with a best finish of fourth coming in the opening meeting of the season at Snetterton. Freeman will be eager to maintain her progress with another new track to learn, this time in the form of the technical Silverstone International circuit.
After previously competing in multiple local karting championships, Dana made the step up to race cars for the first time at the Ford Festival at Brands Hatch in October where she competed in Class D of the BRSCC Fiesta Championship. Despite her limited car racing experience, coupled with difficult track conditions for the duration of the weekend, Freeman excelled by finishing both races achieving a highest result of eighth in race two. Dana’s lap times improved greatly during the course of the weekend, ending the meeting with a best lap time of within a second of some of the more experienced drivers.
Over the winter break, Freeman worked hard to secured sponsors for the upcoming season. Although it was tough, Dana succeeded to secure the funding to enable her to return to the BRSCC Quaife Fiesta Championship for 2016, driving for established team Daniels Motorsport. With multiple victories to their name in a range of one-make championships, Daniels Motorsport were the perfect fit for Dana who gained experience working with the team at Brands Hatch during her debut weekend. Freeman is hoping that her positive working relationship with the Daniels Motorsport will help her develop as a driver during her first full season of car racing.
Going into the opening round of the season at Snetterton without any pre-season testing was always going to be a challenge, but Dana’s determination and willingness to learn set her up for a great weekend. Freeman jumped in the car on Saturday morning for free practice and set about learning the circuit, completing seven trouble free laps whilst improving her lap times considerably. Further progress was made in qualifying as Dana lined up ninth, eager to gain ground during the two races. Race one of the weekend brought great success with Dana finishing in seventh, improving her lap times by five seconds from qualifying, whilst racing closely with Jack Youhill and Simon Furlonger. In the second and final race at Snetterton, Dana made a good start and capitalised on this by moving herself through the field after a close battle with Michael Pain early on, ending the seven lap contest in a superb fourth position. Freeman’s progress during the weekend was remarkable, gaining a massive 13 seconds on her lap time from the first practice session to the final race of the meeting.
This weekend the BRSCC Quaife Fiesta Championship visits the iconic Silverstone circuit, with the drivers competing on the International layout. This challenging track features a mixture of high and low speed corners with multiple chicanes providing the racers with a great challenge. Dana will benefit from taking part in a couple of short test sessions on Friday leading up to the weekend which will enable her to gain knowledge of the circuit before the official race weekend begins. Freeman will be hoping for two more solid results at Silverstone to consolidate her joint fourth position she currently holds in the Class D standings.
