Exciting young prospect Esmee Hawkey has gained support from Porsche Cars UK for her first season driving in the GT Cup Championship. Hawkey, who previously competed in the Ginetta Junior Championship, has teamed up with Porsche Centre Tonbridge for the 2016 campaign where she will be one of the first racers in the country to drive the all-new Porsche Cayman GT4. Esmee will drive for experienced race team GT Marques in the multi-tiered series in an attempt to begin a career in GT racing. This exciting news comes off the back of the news that The London Chocolate Company will continued to sponsor Esmee, extending their support from when she raced for JHR Developments in the Ginetta Junior Championship.
Hawkey made her car racing debut at the end of the 2014 season where she drove for AmD Tuning in the final three rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship. Despite limited experience, she impressed and earned herself a season-long drive with JHR Developments in 2015 contesting the rookie championship. Unfortunately Esmee suffered from a large slice of bad luck during the first half of the season but found her form at Silverstone where she achieved a career best qualifying result of ninth before going onto set one of the best lap times during the race. Despite the absence of trophies during the season, Hawkey showed great potential and will be keen to show this as she takes to the track later in the month to begin her testing programme in preparation for the GT Cup season. With the all-new car showing excellent speed in its early development across the globe, Esmee will be hoping to contest for class victories as soon as the season gets underway at Donington Park in April.
